One coverage option that can affect the rates you pay is road service. When comparing rates, make sure to look and see if road service is included in the quote.
Should you get the road service option? The answer is usually no. Most insurance experts admit that road service coverage is done better, more efficiently and for less money by the auto clubs like Triple A. In addition, the process of using the road service coverage is much simpler through an auto club than it is through an insurance company. One big plus to the auto club is that it covers the full expense of the service at the time you use it. With insurance companies, you usually have to pay for the service out of pocket and then file a claim for reimbursement.
Not only is this inefficient, filing too many claims on your roadside service option can actually count as regular claims on your auto policy and can result in a rate increase. As crazy as this sounds, it does happen.
Therefore, leave roadside out of the equation and when you are doing an auto quote comparison, make sure that none of the policies you are comparing include it.
